PICO PEQUEÑO

PICO PEQUEÑO
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.

Pico Pequeño is 50 yds north from Tamarindo beach entry #6 .
It is a Right lava reef break that can get really good -- favors a southwest swell and a mid-high tide (low tide is practically flat and unrideable).
It's located right in the heart of town, thus everybody is on it when the swell is right. It's also a one-peak sort of wave, so the crowd is especially difficult and dangerous.

PICO GRANDE

PICO GRANDE
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.
Pico Grande is 50 yds north from Tamarindo beach entry #6 .

It is a mid to high to mid tide break with reef/rock bottom, is MOSTLY a right where some lefts connect to the inside
(low tide is practically flat and unrideable).
It's located right in the heart of town, also a one-peak sort of wave, so the crowd is especially difficult.

HENRY'S

HENRY'S
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.
Henry's point is literally direct in front of the hotel at the beach entry #6 and it is a left point reef/lava rock bottom break that can produce nice rights and left separated by the peak at the lava rock reef.
It needs a west swell mixed to work and the wave can be very hollow or mush depending on swell direction. Swells during the northern hemisphere winter produce the best waves for this spot.

RIVERMOUTH

RIVERMOUTH
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.
El Estero (Tamarindo Rivermouth): 140 yds north from beach entry#6.
This is a good wave when the sand settles just right, which it can for weeks at a time. It's split between rights on the south side and lefts on the north. The river is located at the north end of town, across and down from beach entry#3 across from football field.

Tamarindo Beachbreak is 60 yds north from beach entry #6.
Average beachbreak that's never as good as Playa Grande, but it has the advantage of being right in town -- that walk/drive to Grande twice a day gets old pretty quick.
There are lots of beginners here, so you get a chance to show off those closeout maneuvers you've practiced at home.

PLAYA GRANDE

PLAYA GRANDE
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.
Playa Grande: Probably the most consistent of all Tamarindo's spots, even though it's a 20-minute drive or 30-minute hike north of town, Playa Grande is a beachbreak, especially on a good south swell.
It's a somewhat flat-ish beach, so it has the tendency to close out at low tide, but at mid-high tide, it's all near-shore, A-frame tubes -- the best (and most crowded) peaks being right in front of LIFEGUARD TOWER.
It's always bigger than in Tamarindo, and if it is flat everywhere else, Grande will still have something to ride.
It's especially good when an off-season south combines with wintertime offshores.

AVELLANAS

AVELLANAS
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.
Playa Avellanas is a series of rocky reefbreaks, beachbreaks, and another rivermouth, about 30 minutes to the south, and also can get really good.
You can usually find an uncrowded peak at one of those spots, and they generally pick up more swell than Tamarindo.
Namely the Avellanas spots from South to north and also usually from smaller to bigger are LOLAS right in front of the restaurant of the same name, PALO SECO in front of the many dry wood and small trees, the RIVER MOUTH just in front of the rivermouth of avellanas, and LITTLE HAWAII in front of the Pinillas Beach Club.

Witch’s Rock & Ollie’s Point

Witch’s Rock
& Ollie’s Point
BONGA House is located 150 yds from Tamarindo beach entry #6.
lPlaya Naranjo (Witch’s Rock) and Potrero Grande (Ollie's point) is located in the north of Guanacaste Province close to the Nicaraguan border and benefitting from the offshores generated by the large Nicaraguan lake. It is a planed destination as you need to take a 45min ride by car to Playa EL COCO and then a 45 min boat ride to Witch’ Rock or Ollie’s which is about another 15 minutes boat ride north.

WR It is a boat accessible break as the road access is very limited and usually not passable unless you have a strong 4x4 on the dry season and Ollie’s point is a boat access only break. Usually you check WR then go to OP if WR is not working which happens quite often.
Once you are there It is a world class surf break but not so easy to get it good … you need to verify a day before to check on the conditions that match your surfing ability and desire as it can be a paddle buster but a sweet ride.
WR can produce long lefts tube rides and right tube rides the same day with a sand bottom and a river mouth. The peaks vary by swell and tides so it changes all the time the location for the surf.
OP is point break with large river rock and lava rock bottom located in a river mouth
